Spain is one of the 10 best places to retire in the world

The concept of Retirement often means something different these days. We are aging slower and when finally free of all our middle-aged responsibilities, such as mortgages, kids and jobs, we often are at liberty to relive the passions of our youth. (or desired to undertake!), but just could not find the time or the money.

A robust retirement approach is a wise way to have fun and is being recognized by a number of developers.

Spain is a very popular retirement destination because of the climate, breathtaking vistas and scrumptious cuisine. Her scenery is varied, her climate probably the best in Europe, with the possible exception of the Greek islands, there is a wide Anglo-American population which guarantees companionship if you cannot find it among the Spaniards, and the luxuries as well as the necessities of life are available.

It is easy to see why Spain is one of the best places to retire in the world.

This country is located on the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe. It borders Portugal, Gibraltar, Andorra and France.

Living in Spain is also a pleasure with many everyday living expenses far lower than you would find in the UK. In this area dining outside of the home is everyday living as it is affordable and can be done outdoors which they love. There are so many restaurants you really are spoiled for choice with traditional Spanish food sitting alongside traditional English – including Chinese and Indian.

These are by far not the only arguments as to why you should consider moving to live and retire in Spain. For example, the landscape is very beautiful. There is every modern amenity you may be interested in, but you will still find that around the next corner is a perfectly suitable location for tranquility. Financially, when it comes to spending retirement in Spain, the cost of living is actually lower than in the US, but it is less affordable compared to some other more rural countries. Compared to other European countries, Spain continues to be affordable.

Spain offers something for anyone and everyone with amazing heritage and culture and folks all over who wish to invite you and welcome you into their own homes.

Although Spain is better known for flamenco dancing and bullfighting, there are some world famous painters from Spain as well. Dali and Picasso are the most famous.

Some world class composers and opera singers have come from Spain. Enrique Grandos, Isaac Albeniz, Manuel de Falla and Joaquin Rodrigo are all world famous Spanish composers. Placido Domingo – the most renowned opera singer in Spain – is famous the world over. Then there’s Jose Carreras and Montserrat Caballe.

Spain has a public health system so health care is free or low cost if you pay social security (families and retirees are also included).

The Spanish National Health System has an extensive network of health centers and hospitals throughout the country which offer primary health care services (family/GP services, pediatrics and nursing, physiotherapists, social workers with midwives). The Spanish health care system combines both public and private healthcare and within each separate state free or low cost health care is given to those who contribute to the Spanish Seguridad Social (welfare).

Full retirement or seasonal retirement (eg winter months) is very popular in Spain. In 2004, there were 150,000 foreign residents over 65, including some 40,000 Britons. However, because Spain is a very family orientated country there are few retirement homes as the elderly are looked after by their families. If they are unable to care for themselves as they get older, many Brits find themselves returning to the UK for assistance.

In Spain public pensions provide retirees with the equivalent of nearly 90 percent of the country’s average wage.

Spain’s Menorca has built her reputation from it’s island strengths of peace and tranquility.

So if you are looking for one of the 10 best places to retire, Spain surely qualifies to be on that list.
