Kitchen Chair Cushions

Choosing kitchen chair seat cushions that don’t overwhelm your kitchen set is not easy when hard wooden kitchen and dining room chairs beg to be softened. You could just get a set of chair cushions for a few bucks at a discount store, however, will they coordinate with your room’s style, or detract from it? Chair cushions that are cheaper have less durable fabric, thin padding and poor workmanship.

Taking the time and trouble to select quality decorative chair cushions now will pay off for you in the years to come when you have long lasting, comfortable, easy-care cushions for your family to enjoy. When choosing chair cushions for wooden chairs, take these things into account. Select the appropriate dimensions for the seat because it won’t be comfortable if the cushion isn’t big enough. If it’s too big it will appear cumbersome, and the edges of the seat will show wear sooner and reduce the lifespan of the cushions.

Make sure that any ties are sewn into the seam of the cushion. Chair ties must be strong enough to withstand pulling and tugging when people sit and stand. Ties or straps that are sewn into a seam are much more likely to remain attached.

An easy way to keep seat cushions clean is to buy them treated with stain guard. Investing in a can of stain resist or stain guard make it easier to keep them looking fresh and new should you find the perfect cushions aren’t stain resistant. This is,in fact, your kitchen, and your children eat here, right? You should choose a cushion that is either washable or removable, and can be washed. Despite having stain guard protection, occasional spills will be absorbed. Being able to toss your chair cushions into the washer will make your life easier. Select cushions constructed with sturdy fabric that will endure the wear of plenty of seats on the seat.

The most durable fabrics include corduroy, denim, chintz, canvas and duck for cushions that will last a long time. Check rolled edges, piping and ruffles closely to be sure they are all straight and firmly sewn into the seam between the top and the bottom of the cushion. Check the seam closely for breaks or gaps, giving a tug on the ruffle or piping to be certain it won’t easily loosen. Cushions that are tufted look attractive, however, they aren’t that comfortable for sitting on for a long time. In choosing tufted cushions, be sure that any buttons are sewn through all of the layers of the chair cushion to avoid wriggling bottoms pulling them loose.
