Mesothelioma Lawyer

without comments

Mesothelioma is a kind of cancer of the abdomen. It’s often caused by exposure to asbestos, an industrial material in frequent use in the early twentieth century. Mesothelioma is most often diagnosed in the pleura, the cells lining the sacs of the chest, or the abdomen (peritoneum). Asbestos fibers can be thinner than 1000th of a human hair and are invisible to the naked eye. The material was commonly used for thermal insulation, because of its resistance to heat and fire. Although the dangers of working with asbestos became known in the 1920s, industry continued its use until the 1970s, thereby exposing many people to a serious health risk.

Mesothelioma is a particularly insidious cancer, because decades can pass between exposure to asbestos and the appearance of cancerous symptoms. There is still a long way to go with regards to educating people about this type of cancer, though it has become more well known over recent years among doctors and the general public. If you or your family are unfortunate enough to be touched by this distressing disease, it is important to seek the guidance of an experienced mesothelioma attorney so you can seek financial compensation. This needs to be done before your state’s statutes of limitations expire, leaving you and your family grieving and empty-handed. Sometimes victims are unaware of how or when they were exposed to asbestos until their mesothelioma attorney completes an extensive asbestos exposure investigation.

Facts About Life Insurance Policies

without comments

It is an difficult time in a family’s life when they have to endure the loss of a loved one. Even more troubling is not to know how the funeral expenses are going to be paid if the person did not have insurance coverage, or the amount of insurance is inadequate. Believe it or not, many of these circumstances can be avoided if the deceased person had a will, or had at least informed his or her spouse or close relative of the available life insurance policies. Family members are responsible for notifying the life insurance company of the policy owner’s death. However, if the family is unaware of a policy, this cannot be done, and the policy can go unclaimed. Many families later realize that there is a lost life insurance policy.

A great number of insurance policy benefits go unclaimed because either the family does not know the policy exists, or they do not know where to find it. Therefore, it is possible that lost life insurance policy holders may be entitled to an unexpected windfall. A growing number of mutual life insurance companies have converted to stock ownership, entitling millions of current and former policy holders and heirs to receive stock and cash, in addition to the policy benefits.

For instance, John Hancock Insurance did not have the current addresses for approximately 400,000 policy holders. Prudential had 1.2 million missing policy holders. By law, lost life insurance policy benefits and the unclaimed demutualization compensation is held in trust until the claimants come forward. A name change after marriage or a divorce, an unreported change of address or an expired postal forwarding order have all led to beneficiaries not claiming the policy payouts. Annually, only a small percentage of the money that is actually available is ever claimed.

Due to the fact that insurance companies are not required by law to search for beneficiaries, it is appropriate for people to communicate with loved ones in order to know policies exist. Death is not an enjoyable conversation; however, your loved one should not want to pay monthly premiums for a policy that is no one ever benefits from. Preventing a lost life insurance policy means having that conversation. If your loved one dies before you get the information, there are other ways of finding out. Their bank might be to provide transaction details which show payments made to an insurance company. In some states, insurance companies are required to release the funds to the state as unclaimed property.

Pine Beetles — the new scourge

without comments

We spent a week in Colorado the beginning of June. My family has had a cabin in Estes Park since 1932. My Dad’s father built it by hand when my Dad was just a couple of years old. This is on the east slope of the Rockies. There are trees starting to die on that side.

The real surprise was when we drove to the western slope. Entire square miles of forest are dead and brown. The pines have been killed by the Pine Beetle. The Pine Beetle is the most destructive forest pest in North America. The Canadian Forest Service describes the current pine beetle epidemic as the largest insect infestation in North American history.

Mountain Pine Beetles have a one year life cycle. In late summer (usually July-Aug in Rocky Mountain States) the newly hatched adults leave the tree of their metomorphosis, seeking out larger trees (usually over 13″ diameter if possible) in the surrounding area. (In areas with heavy infestation, beetle hatchlings may take even smaller trees as pressure to get ANY tree increases). When the adults arrive, they begin tunneling under the bark, lay eggs, which turn to larvae and live through the winter to produce more egg-laying adults to attack more trees. Colorado State University thinks that one infested tree will kill at least two or more trees. Thus the exponential devastation occurs.

Beetles and other insects communicate using pheromones. Verbenone – a synthetic pheromone treatment for high value pine trees – replicates the beetle pheromone, sending a message that the tree is full and that the food supply is insufficient for additional beetles. Arriving beetles receive the ‘message’ that they should look elsewhere for a suitable host. The easiest way to keep track of what is happening with your trees is with a properly placed nanny cam. Most cabins are not occupied throughout the entire year. But they are worth watching.

Top 3 Benefits of Creating an Organized Home

without comments

There are so many benefits when you organize your home, today I will share the top three in my book!

Relieves Stress: When your home is disorganized it can make you feel like you can’t think straight, it causes stress and lots of it! Just walking into a room or past a disorganized part of your home can make you feel guilty that you haven’t tackled that project yet.

When you organize your home, you will feel your stress levels decrease, you will feel lighter and you will feel calmer in your surroundings.

Saves You Money: When you have an organized home, it can save you money in more than one way. As you declutter and part with excess belongings, you may find you are ready to sell them on craigslist, eBay, a consignment shop or even have a good old fashioned yard sale and actually make some money!

When you give your belongings a home and place ‘like’ items together, you will clearly see how many of each item you have on hand. If you discover you have 3 bottles of shampoo, you will know that you can hold off on purchasing shampoo for quite a while. This will eliminate purchasing duplicate items. See what you have and use it before you stock up on more!

Highlights Your Treasures: When you have reached a point in your home where you are overwhelmed by clutter, nothing stands out as important anymore, nothing stands out to reflect your tastes and interests. It looks more like piles or jumbles of ‘stuff’ and it makes it difficult to see and find what you need and love.

When you make decisions to part with items that you no longer love, use or enjoy, you will find your space opens up. It’s ok to pass on belongings so someone else can find them as treasures while displaying the items in your home that you truly love and enjoy.

May you reap the many benefits of creating an organized home!

Hair Loss Is As Natural As Ageing

without comments

Most people with hair loss simply have an unfortunate genetic tendency to start losing their hair at a certain age. This is a condition that if untreated will get progressively worse, and an understanding of this truth will help those who suffer from hair loss know what they can really do, in practical terms, about their hair loss.

It is an unknown fact that everyone suffers from a tendency for hair loss to some degree, as very few of us when we are in our fifties, sixties, and seventies will have the head of hair we had in our teens.  The degree of hair loss we suffer becomes more apparent as we age, and those people with a greater genetic predisposition for hair loss usually start losing their hair earlier and to a greater degree than those with a lesser genetic predisposition.

At approximately twenty-five years of age, twenty percent of men will show some signs of hair loss or thinning of the hair, but by the age of sixty the percentage increases to about seventy-five percent.  Of this seventy-five percent, half will have significant baldness on the front and top of their heads.

Women too will experience hair thinning as a result of their hair follicle’s genetic programming, however, noticeable hair loss in women will typically only occur after menopause.  The entire genetic mechanism that causes hair loss is not completely understood, however, we do know that in individuals with pattern hair loss, particular hair follicles are genetically programmed to be more sensitive to a hormone circulating in the blood, dihydrotestosterone, the “male” hormone, although women have low levels as well.

This hormone is abbreviated to DHT and is formed from testosterone. The main cause of pattern hair loss in both men and women is this hormone DHT in the blood signaling the hair follicles genetically programmed to be sensitive to DHT to stop growing new hairs.

General texts like this are not intended as a substitute for competent, professional medical advice. As with anything medical, you should consult your physician for his advice before you consider making any changes, or taking any medications.

How to solve a sudoku in two steps

without comments

The Sudoku is an addictive number puzzle game that has become one of the most popular puzzle games ever created. It is played using a 9 x 9 grid that is divided into nine equal boxes. The objective of the puzzle is to place the numbers from 1 to 9. Each number must appear only once in every row, column and box.

For beginners, here are two steps which can be helpful in solving the sudoku. Be sure to follow each step carefully and correctly to have a better chance of solving the puzzle.

First step is to look for single choices. Single choices may be found by counting the numbers given in a row, the intersecting column and the box where the row and column intersect. If the row, column and box have eight of the numbers from 1 to 9, the cell common to both the row and the column is the only place the ninth number may go. Another way to find single choices is to take a given number in a row and look for the same number in the next box. If the number is missing, the right place will be on either of the two rows. Check the two other rows for the same number. If you end up with only one cell available for your number, this is also a single choice.

Second step is similar to step one, but this time do the columns.

When done with the columns do step one again, but this time focus on the new numbers you have placed. If you end up with unsolved cells with this two-step approach you need more advanced sudoku solving strategies.
