A bomb scare forced the evacuation of the Comal County Courthouse in Texas on Friday, August 15th.

A maintenance worker came across a suspicious package near a door in back of the courthouse records office at about 10 a.m., prompting deputies from the Comal County Sheriffs Office to order everyone out of the courthouse and its adjacent buildings so it could be inspected.

Turns out it was only some powdered milk taped up in a paper bag.

In this day and age, we treat everything like its real, said CCSO Deputy Chief Gregg Van De Loo, after employees in the courthouse, Commissioners Court and the Comal County Appraisal District had to leave their offices for about two hours.

We would rather inconvenience people than risk anyone being injured.

Carlos Munoz, 45, was arrested by the CCSO for reportedly leaving the package. He was charged with making a terroristic threat and taken to Comal County jail. His bond was set at $10,000 according to a release issued by CCSO. Officials did not give any potential motives for why the package might have been left at the courthouse.

After the maintenance worker alerted deputies, the CCSO called in the San Antonio Police Departments bomb squad to help inspect the package. Officers combed the area with a bomb-sniffing dog and yanked the package from about 100 yards away with a length of wire before determining there was no real danger. The powdered milk inside was the kind used to feed small livestock.

A final search of the area was conducted and employees were allowed to return to work.
